Richard Turner

Chairman & Independent Trustee

  • Currently serves on the board of several public companies, including Board Chair of Pure Industrial Real Estate Trust; Board Chair, President and CEO of TitanStar Properties Inc.; and Director of WesternOne Inc.  He is also a Director and Audit Committee Chair of Vancouver Fraser Port Authority;
  • Was the director of the Organizing Committee of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and served as Chair of its Audit Committee; Board Chair of the Insurance Corporation of BC;  Board Chair of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation; Trustee of  Healthlease Properties REIT; Trustee of Sunrise Senior Living REIT; Director, president and CEO of the operating subsidiary of IAT Air Cargo Facilities Income Fund; Chair and Governor of the Vancouver Board of Trade; and Governor of the B.C. Business Council;
  • Serves as the Honorary Consul for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Vancouver. In 2003, Mr. Turner received H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee Award for public service in Canada;
  • Holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, and has received the ICD.D designation.

Jim Bogusz

Independent Trustee

  • Chief Operating Officer of The Beedie Development Group, a private company engaged in the acquisition, development, construction and management of industrial and residential real estate;
  • Has extensive real estate experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy and guidance of companies through growth and significant change;
  • Previously the Chief Financial Officer of one of Canada's largest real estate lending groups, and was the Vice-President of Finance for a major real estate development and construction company;
  • Previously the Vice-President Finance for a major real estate development and construction company;
  • Mr. Bogusz sits on a number of boards including BC's largest road maintenance company where he Chairs the Audit Committee, the Independent Builders and Contractors Association where he is the Vice-Chair, and the Dean’s Advisory Board of the SFU Beedie School of Business;
  • A graduate of Simon Fraser University, he has been a Chartered Professional Accountant (C.A.), since 1986 and is an active member of CPA Canada; 
  • A member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Paul Haggis

Independent Trustee

Among many other high-profile governance positions, Mr. Haggis is Chair of Alberta Enterprise, a venture capital initiative of the Alberta government.  He is also a Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. of Calgary, and an advisor to and former Chair of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia’s investment committee.

Mr. Haggis’ additional governance experience includes:

  • Board member, University of British Columbia’s Investment Management Trust;
  • Former Chair, CABancorp;
  • Former Chair, Athabasca Oil Corporation’s governance committee;
  • Former Chair, Canadian Pacific Railway;
  • Former Audit Chair, Prime Restaurants Inc.;
  • Former Chair, Royal Ontario Museum’s finance committee (not-for-profit organization);
  • Foundation board member, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (not-for-profit organization).

Mr. Haggis’ career credentials include:

  • CEO, ATB Financial;
  • President and CEO, Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS);
  • Interim CEO, Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSPIB);
  • CEO, MetLife’s non insurance operations and COO of Canadian operations.

Mr. Haggis is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds a Chartered Director designation from McMaster University.

Robert King

Independent Trustee

  • President of Westbridge Finance Inc., a private equity firm involved in corporate and real estate investment and finance;
  • From March 2006 to present, Mr. King has served on the Board of Directors of Wall Financial Corporation (TSX:WFC);
  • Mr. King earned his MBA from Dalhousie University in 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 1989, he is also a graduate of the ICD-Rotman Directors education program and holds the designation of ICD.D.

Douglas Scott

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (C.A.), Financial Consultant;
  • Previously the Chief Financial Officer of First Majestic Resources Corp., First Silver Reserve Inc., and Coast Wholesale Appliances Income Fund;
  • Board member of WesternOne Inc. (TSX:WEQ) and Pure Multi-Family REIT LP (TSXV: RUF.U, RUF.UN);
  • Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has received the ICD.D designation.

Lis Wigmore

Independent Trustee

Ms. Wigmore has nearly 30 years of corporate real estate experience in Canada, the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom.  Ms. Wigmore was the Chief Operating Officer of Ipc US REIT, a publicly-traded real estate investment trust, and has held senior positions with Reichmann International, Campeau Corporation and the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club.  In addition to Ms. Wigmore’s corporate credentials, Ms. Wigmore is Vice Chair and Chair of Governance for Fred Victor, a charitable organization that fosters long-lasting and positive change in the lives of homeless and low-income people living in Toronto.
 
Ms. Wigmore holds a Chartered Director designation from The Directors College / DeGroote School of Business; an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and an Honours BA from the University of Western Ontario.
 

Stephen Evans

Co-Founder & Trustee

  • 25 years of real estate experience;
  • Co-founded PIRET and has been instrumental in leading its growth from start-up to a dominant player in the Canadian industrial marketplace;
  • Co-founder and CEO of Pure Multi-Family REIT LP which owns and operates a portfolio of high quality apartment communities in the US sunbelt growth markets (TSXV: RUF.U, RUF.UN);
  • Managing Director and co-founder of Sunstone Realty Advisors which has raised over $350 million in equity to acquire 60 properties totaling over $800 million;
  • Co-founded and serves as director of American Hotel Income Properties REIT LP (TSX: HOT.UN) which owns and operates a portfolio of 80 hotels located throughout the United States;
  • Director of WesternOne Inc. (TSX:WEQ);
  • A member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Kevan Gorrie

President, Chief Executive Officer, & Trustee

  • 18 years of real estate experience, successfully leading over $750 million in equity financings and $2 billion in acquisitions;
  • Prior to joining PIRET, led the Industrial business of a major Canadian pension fund, encompassing investment, realization, asset management and development;
  • Professional Engineer with an honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto;
  • A member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Darren Latoski (1969 - 2013)

On September 9, 2013, PIRET announced the sudden passing of co-founder, director and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Darren Latoski.  Darren co-founded PIRET and raised $21 million of equity capital for PIRET’s IPO in August 2005.  Under Darren’s guidance from 2005 to 2013, Darren grew PIRET’s portfolio to over 160 industrial properties and over 12.8 Million square feet.  Darren fought a valiant battle with cancer and was active in his role with PIRET until his death.  He was one of Canada’s most successful young entrepreneurs and will be deeply missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.
